Amna Binte Swaleh - 2023 - Jaipur

Daisy Xavier's sculpture "Between Continents" is a unique work of ArtArt that provokes
thoughtful reflection through the clever use of symbols and materials to construct an
intermediate realm. The sculpture resembles a suspended bed and draws inspiration from the
ubiquitous rope beds found between trees in tropical regions. This particular work is a recurring
motif in the artist's collection, symbolizing the coexistence of opposing forces and contrasts,
resulting in a realm of total intersectionality. The sculpture blurs distinctions and incites activity,
leaving the route open and undefined. It progresses through three stages: inception, the
transitional phase, and the culmination, where it erupts.
In its first phase, "Between Continents" represents a liminal space as a gateway to new
experiences. The viewer's mind is transported to a space of infinite possibility and potential,
where ideas and thoughts are free to roam and explore.
In the second phase, the sculpture triggers a state of mindfulness, urging the viewer to
contemplate the interconnectedness of all things. The use of symbols and materials in "Between
Continents" visually represents the intricate connections between all aspects of life, including
CultureCulture, nature, and the self.
Finally, the sculpture explodes creatively in the third phase, encouraging viewers to embrace
their unique perspectives and ideas. "Between Continents" inspires individuals to think outside
the box, break free from the constraints of conventional thinking, and explore the vast potential
of the unknown.

The artwork is composed of copper wire and orange wool, with the various colours of wool
penetrating the copper net as an unfamiliar element. When touched by the wool, the transparent
copper wire becomes luminous and exuberant, resulting in a complementary contrast of
materials that creates a new liminal space. The wool's exuberant hue evokes memories of the
explosion of colours that amaze first-time visitors to India. The connection between the
materials and colours fosters an energy exchange between the two continents. It is worth noting
that the artist procured the materials from a local market in Jaipur.
Daisy Xavier was born in Rio de Janeiro and has studied psychology, psychoanalysis, and art
history. Her work investigates issues related to identities and otherness, creating objects and
images with a strong poetic charge where matter represents permeable zones. The net and
water are recurrent elements in her works, which include sculpture, painting, drawing, video,
photography, and installations.
The Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi and the Galeria Karla Osorio in Brasilia have supported the
sculpture, a beautiful representation of the artist's unique vision and creative abilities. "Between
Continents" invites us to reflect on the spaces in between, the suspension of opposites, and the
exchange of energy between different cultures and materials.
The sculpture "Between Continents" merges two continents through an exchange of energy and
creates a new space in between.
All this works in the exhibition were supported by the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi, and the
Galeria Karla Osorio in Brasilia is acknowledged.
